DELTA ARTISTS ASSOCIATION

20th Annual Member Exhibit

Due to the 2020 Covid restrictions, the 20th annual Member Exhibit of the Delta Artists Association will be a virtual exhibit this year. But despite the setbacks, art endures.

The artwork is for sale, and payment may be made to the Greenville Arts Council via PayPal (handle: execdirector@greenville-arts-council.com), check, or cash. The artists will receive 80% of the sale, which is a much more generous scale than they would find in a private gallery!

Juror Dana Finimore made her selections, and she had the following to say about the exhibit:

"Choosing awards for an art exhibition isn’t easy. Because almost all work shows some form of merit, it is often a challenge to weight them. As I look at all these most worthy submissions their triumphs and struggles seem all too familiar. This is because as an artist, I have experienced the same highs and lows .

One of the most important deciding factors for me when judging is whether the work shows craftsmanship, expression, imagination, and holds together as an interesting work. Another important question I ask myself is whether the work displays the distinct qualities that draw the viewer back to the piece for a second look.

As far as skills and technique go, there are two pieces that stood out to me for their color knowledge and impeccable use of the medium. Pam Locke’s Sardis Sweetie, and Dean’s painting of the three cats both exhibit wonderful handling of their specific media. Melanie Tucker’s precise linocut print, and Bostic’s skillfully constructed table both thoroughly impressed me as well.

All in all, the unique ability to create something that seems effortless is actually more difficult than the average viewer recognizes. Further inspection of these works reveals the significant time invested in their creation. Many pieces were just edged out of the awards, and someone else may easily have chosen different works, however, narrowing down such talent is always difficult."

The juror's selections are below, and the other artworks in the exhibit will follow.
