The Greenville Arts Council is a proud host site of an AmeriCorps*VISTA service member. VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) is a federal anti-poverty program administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service. VISTA provides full-time volunteers (VISTAs) to support projects at nonprofit, grassroots organizations, and local government agencies that operate programs to help alleviate poverty in the United States. VISTAs strengthen and support these organizations by improving their infrastructure, expanding community partnerships, securing long-term resources, training program participants, and developing other activities that help build long-term sustainability for overcoming poverty.
We are so excited to be able to welcome our FOURTH AmeriCorps* VISTA to the Greenville Arts Council. Ben will be starting mid February and he will be assisting with our Arts in Education program. He will focus on expanding our Family Literacy Program as well as overseeing the development of our web presence. So be looking for some changes there! We. Can’t. Wait. For. Him. To. Start. He is going to be a great addition to our team.
Ben graduated with a degree in History from University of South Carolina, in Colombia, SC. While at the University of South Carolina he was a Carolina Exploration Scholar. More recently, he has taught 8th Grade English at WA Higgins Academy in Clarksdale, MS.
