Delta Collects: Seymour Weiss’ Collection

GREENVILLE, Miss–The Greenville Arts Council announces the opening of their fourth exhibit of the 2012 year in the Roger D. Malkin Gallery. Delta Collects: Seymour Weiss opens on June 15 and will remain up until July 20, 2012. This exhibit is sponsored by The Leland Progress. The Roger D. Malkin Gallery is open from 10 AM-4 PM Monday through Friday and by appointment on Saturday and is free of charge.

This exhibit showcases the private collection of the late arts patron Seymour Weiss. Weiss was a great supporter of the arts and was involved in the Delta Symphony Association, Delta Center Stage, and even worked on the E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center renovation project. His collection includes artwork by a variety of regional artists—most were involved with the prestigious Delta State University Art program. The collection even includes a Stan Topol painting, winner of the 2012 Greenville Honors Its Own Artist Award.

“The Greenville Arts Council has been looking forward to this exhibit for over a year. Mr. Weiss was a founder of the Greenville Arts Council—and we are so glad that his collection will be on permanent display at the Roger D. Malkin Gallery,“ stated MacKenzie Stroh, Executive Director of the Greenville Arts Council.

The Greenville Arts Council will also officially open the new addition to the Roger D. Malkin Gallery. Through community support and a gift from the Deer Creek Foundation the Arts Council has been able to add an additional room to the rotating gallery space.

“This third room will permanently hold the Greenville Arts Council’s permanent collection as well as the work from Seymour Weiss’ collection. We are so grateful to Mr. Weiss and his estate for giving us the chance to permanently display his collection,” explained Stroh.
