National League of American Pen Women
announces the first
ONLINE ART COMPETITION!
Now open to women artists who are
not currently members of the League.
All mediums welcome ~ see details on the link and enter now!
Deadline for entries ~ December 31st, 2011
After months of planning and working closely with our web developer, a personal goal is being realized by National Art Chair, Jamie Tate. She presented the proposal for online art competitions to the National Executive Board in April of this year and with their unanimous approval began working to make it happen. Her plan was to open the first contest to non-members only. There were a couple of reasons for this: members can focus their attention and effort on entering the Biennial Competition at this time, and also this is a way to help other women qualify for membership who might need juried shows for their applications!
“I am really excited about the possibilities that come with the online competitions. Many galleries and museums are now utilizing this modern technology as a way of funding other programming within their organizations and there is no reason NLAPW cannot do that as well!” says Tate, who has made this one of her goals as National Art Chair. “It is very gratifying to have this become a reality. Now we must make it work for us.” Tate plans to utilize the proceeds of this first contest to help fund the ARTS portion of the upcoming 2012 Biennial Convention in Washington D.C. next April. After that, whatever monies are taken in from these contests will fund Art and Outreach programming, as well as aid the General Fund of the League. Top selections will be viewed in an online gallery on the League website, while the top winners will be given publicity in our Pen Woman magazine and cash prizes will be determined by the number of entries received. So help us get the word out!
