GAC Hosts Delta
Artist Association Gallery Opening!

The Greenville Arts Council is excited to announce that it will be hosting the Delta Artist Association’s 10th Annual Member Exhibit on September 23, 2011, at 5:00 pm in the Roger D. Malkin Gallery at the E.E. Bass Cultural Arts Center.

In the year 2000, a group of the Mississippi Delta’s very own visual artists collaborated to form the Delta Artist Association. In the last 10 years, the DAA has expanded to include more than 90 artists. Each year, the GAC hosts an annual exhibit to showcase the work of the talented and dedicated members of the Delta Artist Association.

“The Delta Artists Association has worked really hard this year to put this show together.  It should be one of the  best shows we have ever
done.  We appreciate the support that the community gives us and hope that everyone enjoys the exhibit,” Richard Dattel, DAA President, said.

The DAA’s 10th Annual Member Exhibit will be juried by Associate Professor of Art at Delta State University, Mr. Cetin Oguz. Cetin Oguz was born in Instanbul Turkey. He began expressing interest in art at the age of 4, illustrating animals and drawing from observation. In 1993, Oguz was chosen to study painting and drawing at Mimar Sinan University, a prominent university in Turkey.  In 1999, he came to the U.S. to study English at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. Immediately upon completing his English studies, he received a scholarship from Delta State University (DSU) in Cleveland, Mississippi, which he used to earn his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2001. He received his Master of Fine Art degree from Memphis College of Art.  Cetin began teaching at DSU in 2003 and became a tenured professor in 2009. Cetin has exhibited his work in his native country of Turkey and throughout the Southeastern United States.
