Classes at GAC–This Fall!

Wowy! Check out all the classes being offered for children AND adults.

New Fall Classes!

This fall we’re offering something for everyone! From 1 year old children to retired adults and everyone in between, we’ve got classes for every age group. With new classes coming, we have new class policies. As class space is limited, we encourage you to register early. A non-refundable $25 deposit is due a week before the class begins in order to reserve your spot; the rest of the payment is due at the first class. We are always adding new classes and workshops, so be sure to check back often  for an updated schedule.

Adult Pottery Class
Tuesdays, 10:00 am – 11:30 am from September 13 – October 11 (5 weeks)
$75 for Non-GAC Members, $65 for GAC Members

Acclaimed local potter, Mr. Richard Dattel, will teach participants how to throw a variety of pieces on the ceramics wheel. Cost includes all supplies. Limited to 5 students.

Elementary Art Class
Tuesdays, 5:00 pm – 6:30 pm from September 13 – October 25 (7 weeks)
$70 for Non-GAC Members, $60 for GAC Members

From over the river, Ms. Tracy Norrell of Lake Village, AR, will be bringing her talents to the Greenville Arts Council to teach a range of art mediums to Kindergarten – Fourth Graders. Cost includes all supplies. Limited to 15 students.

Music for Minnows
Wednesdays, 10:00 am – 10:45 am from September 14 – November 2 (8 weeks)
$60 for Non-GAC Members, $50 for GAC Members

Music for Minnows is back! Local music teacher, Ms. Leanna Salley, will teach the basics of music to children between 1 and 5 years old. Cost includes a CD, music book, and an instrument. Limited to 12 students. Parents/guardians are welcome to attend with their child.

3-D and Mixed Media Art Class
Thursdays, 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm from September 15 – October 13 (5 weeks)
$50 for Non-GAC Members, $40 for GAC Members

Looking for a class for students in 5 -12 grade? Ms. Alana Burman will return to E.E. Bass after teaching at the Greenville Renaissance Scholar’s summer camp to work with students on a variety of 3-D and mixed media projects. Cost includes all supplies. Limited to 15 students.

Adult Pottery – CEU Credits Available
Thursdays, 5:00 pm-6:30 pm from September 15-October 28 (7 weeks)
$75 for Non-GAC Members, $65 for GAC Members

Mississippi Teaching Artist Workshops – CEU Credits Available
This fall the Greenville Arts Partnership will be hosting Professional Development on three different Saturdays, taught by Mississippi Teaching Artists that specialize in science, literacy, math and social science arts integration. 0.6 CEU credits are available for interested participants for an additional $15 fee.

Chuck Galey’s Professional Development for Educators
Saturday, August 20, 8:00 am-3:00 pm, O’Bannon High School
FREE for WSLD and GPSD teachers, $60 for the general public.
As a teaching artist and award winning author/illustrator of children’s books, Chuck’s goal is to inspire students to become life long readers. Chuck Galey has illustrated over 50 books for educational publishers around the country. Mr. Galey will demonstrate how to use an illustrated text to increase childhood literacy by using a variety of teaching methods. Participants will learn how to create hand puppets, will explore reader’s theatre and will create thematic unit boards around a given text. His strategies will have a clear connection to ELA Mississippi State Frameworks. Open to all Pre-K-6 educators.  0.6 CEU credits are available from Delta State University. Stephanie Artz’s Professional Development for Educators
Saturday, September 10, 8:00 am-3:00 pm, Melissa Manning Elementary School
FREE for WSLD and GPSD teachers, $60 for the general public.

Stephanie Artz was a ballet dancer in the Ballet Arts Ensemble in Nashua, New Hampshire from 1979-1984. She offers classes for K-12 in dance, movement, partnering, and authentic movement tied to curriculum in history and mathematics. Ms. Artz will be working with K-6th grade educators to demonstrate a variety of approaches on how to integrate dance and movement into the Mississippi State Frameworks for Math and Social Sciences. Open to all Pre-K-6 educators. 0.6 CEU credits are available from Delta State University. Registration required at http://stephanie-artz-workshop.eventbrite.com/

Dr. John Hunt’s Professional Development for Educators
Saturday, September 24, 8:00 am-3:00 pm, Jake and Freda Stein Hall
FREE for WSLD and GPSD teachers, $60 for the general public.

Dr. Hunt will demonstrate a variety of ways to engage students in science projects. His methods break down step by step how teachers can use small experiments to grab a student’s attention and get them excited for learning. His session makes clear connections to Science Mississippi State Frameworks and provides take away lessons for the teachers to use in their classrooms.
